At Syracuse University, all master’s and certificates of advanced study programs offered by the School of Information Studies (SOIS) can be completed on campus, online or in a blended format. Students participating in SOIS online programs receive the same degree as their campus counterparts. Degrees are accredited by Middle States and the American Library Association (ALA), no matter which format you choose to complete the coursework.
Online Graduate Degree Requirements
To get enrolled into an online graduate program at Syracuse University (SU), a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. One point is, I would like to say, applicants are recommended to have an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or better.
In fact, in reviewing application, all elements will be taken into consideration, which include references, educational record, test scores, resume, honors, work experience, personal essay and statement on academic plans. Plus, in addition to an application, the School of Information Studies also requires applicants to submit supporting materials.
Bear in mind that, according to Syracuse University policy, any materials submitted by an applicant or on behalf of the applicant, will not be returned to the applicant.
Note: As SU online graduate study is available to a variety of different master’s degree programs, there are extra requirements applied to different programs. So, for specific admission requirements, be sure to check the online program you want to apply. Some of the graduate degree programs at Syracuse University include:
• Master of Science in Library and Information Science
• Master of Science in Library and Information Science Media Specialization
• Master of Science in Information Management
• Executive Master’s in Information Management
• Master of Science in Telecommunications & Network Management
How to Apply for SU Online Graduate Program
Many of you opt for online learning mainly because of geographical issues and busy schedule, I think. If you are one of them, I recommend you to apply online. This method enables your application to be processed faster and more efficiently.
New to the online application for Syracuse University online graduate program? To embark on your online application, set up an account first – this is fast, easy and free! Be aware that you need to supply a series of your personal information, which includes:
• Email address
• First name, last/family name
• City, state/province, zip/postal code, country
When setting up an account, you can also choose to create an Embark.com Profile and save your data to your Profile. Simply put, creating Embark Profile helps save you valuable time by allowing you to enter common data only once.
Online Application for Syracuse University Graduate School
If you are a returning Embark user, just log in to your account with your email address and password. Be noted that you may need to upload your application materials when applying online. Additionally, online students must select summer as the starting semester on the application.
What if there is an error on your submitted application? Once an application is submitted, this means the application is sent to the school and the admission review process begins. At this point, you should contact the admission office for any necessary updates or changes to your submitted application.
Note: If you are an international applicant, you also have to submit a document known as Form SUIA together with your graduate application form. Try to avoid any inconsistency (such as misspelled name and an invalid address), as this may delay the processing of your application materials.
Anyway, make sure to send your application within the deadline. June 1 is the deadline for submitting applications which are accepted on a space-available basis, though applications submitted by February 1 may be considered for iSchool-awarded financial assistance in the first place.
