Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, usually known as Rutgers University or just Rutgers, is a coeducational public research university.

The university is the largest institution for higher education in New Jersey and the eighth-oldest college in the United States. Chartered in 1766 as all-male Queen’s College in New Brunswick, the school is also one of only two colonial colleges that later evolved into public universities.

Today, Rutgers University has three campuses and they are respectively located in New Brunswick, Newark and Camden. The university offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and more than 180 graduate programs across 175 academic departments, 29 degree-granting schools and colleges. As the largest university within New Jersey’s state university system, Rutgers has the threefold mission of:

• Offering the instructional needs of New Jersey’s citizens through its undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs

To apply for one of these financial aids, students are required to apply for admission and also be accepted into a regular degree program at Rutgers University before any consideration or decision can be made. However, students don’t have to wait for formal acceptance to Rutgers to apply. Remember that apply for financial aid and admission as early as possible. Best of all, part-time students also have the right to receive financial aid. However, they must be enrolled on at least a half-time basis to qualify for a student loan. Be aware that NJ grants and scholarships are usually conferred only to full-time students. In determining financial aid, various factors would be taken into consideration, such as family size, number of family members in college, age of older parent and asset information.
